While you earn 1.5 points per dollar on all purchases, there are a number of additional bonus rewards. First, if you purchase airfare through the Bank of America Travel Center you will earn 3 points per dollar, instead of the usual 1.5 points per dollar. Cardholders that have another account with Bank of America, or a Bank of American company such as Merrill Lynch, will also receive bonus points at the end of the year equivalent to 10% of annual net purchases (this is calculated on December 31st, and you will receive your bonus points sometime in February or March). Lastly, cardholders that spend at least $500 in the first 90 days will receive 10,000 bonus points (which is equivalent to $100 in rewards).

Once you have accrued at least 2500 points, you can begin redeeming your points for rewards. In order to redeem your points, you simply identify the qualifying purchase on your statement, and request a “Travel Credit” from Bank of America. See page 3 of the “Program Rules” for a full list of qualifying Travel Credit purchases (link below in “Relevant Information” section). The list of eligible rewards is comprehensive and covers expenses such as amusement parks, campgrounds, transportation, timeshares, and boat rentals, just to name a few. This is definitely a flexible travel rewards card that any recreation or travel enthusiast will appreciate.

While the BankAmericard Travel Rewards Credit Card is focused on travel rewards, cardholders also have the option of redeeming their points for gift cards and cash back. Bank of America has a large selection of gift card rewards that cover most major retailers.

The cash back options include the ability to receive a cash payment, make a charitable donation, contribute to a mortgage, or invest in an IRA or investment account. The exact rates for cash rewards are subject to change, and only disclosed to cardholders. After these twelve billing cycles, there is a variable APR of 14.99-22.99%, which will be determined based on your creditworthiness.

While all BankAmericard Travel Rewards Credit Card are Visa cards, you will receive a Visa Signature if account your application is approved with a credit line of $5,000 or greater, and a Platinum Plus account if your credit line is less than $5,000. There are some differences in the benefits between the Platinum Plus and Visa Signature accounts, but Bank of America does not clearly specify what these differences are. Be assured, however, that both qualify for the travel rewards outline above.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the BankAmericard Travel Rewards Credit Card is a comprehensive and flexible travel rewards card that carries no annual fee.
