Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card Review – Better than others?

Are credit cards issued from different carriers truly different from one another? You bet they are. Like the Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card, you’ll find dozens of credit card offerings available, not only in your junk mail, but on the Internet. Knowing which one offers you the best benefits and perks, and the lowest interest rates, fees and limitations are important for everyone, whether for personal or business use. We’ll provide you with a basic overview of the Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card so that you can make a more educated, knowledgeable decision when it comes to choosing a platinum card.

Features and Benefits of the Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card

The Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card comes with a variety of features, including a 0% introductory APR on balance transfers for the first 15 months after your account is opened. Earn savings with every purchase, up to 1.5%, with no limitations.  What exactly does that mean? It means that the amount you’re capable of saving is based on the number of purchases made every month.

For example, when you make your first $250 in purchases on the card, you automatically earn 0.5% of that amount. For purchases made in amounts between $250.01 and $750, earn 1% of that amount. Purchases over $750.01 earn 1.5% of that amount.

The Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card also offers 10,000 bonus points as a Thank You after you make $500 in purchases within three months of the account opening.  Cardholders may also save up to 10% on AT&T services and purchases (such as Androids, Windows Smartphones, Apple, and Blackberry devices) for the first 12 months and 5% after that, up to $350 a year. In addition, you can also earn one reward point for every dollar spent (up to 50,000 points a year) on non-AT&T services and purchases.  You’re allowed to redeem points on just about anything, from a gift card, to travel, to music downloads.

The nice thing about this card is that rewards start at 100 points, so you don’t have to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to start earning and taking advantage of your rewards. Be aware however, that the only transactions that accrue savings are purchases, and do not include cash advances, balance transfers, and fees. If you don’t keep your account current or open, you’ll no longer have access to these savings.

The Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card does not charge annual fees. You can also save time and hassle by taking advantage of the service that applies statement credit that post automatically to your account every month. While these are certainly a good start to the benefits offered by this platinum card, it also pays to know about fees, interest rates, and terms and conditions.  No one really likes to read the super-fine print found in terms and conditions, but get past your dislike and make sure that you read and understand the limitations and exclusions that maybe placed on your platinum card account.

Interest Rates and Fees

The APR attached to new Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card cardholders averages between 13.99% and 23.99%, depending on your credit history and perceived credit worthiness. After that, the variable APR rate will also range somewhere between 13.99% and 23.99%, again depending on your credit worthiness. When it comes to balance transfer fees, expect to pay $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is larger.

Actual percentage rates applied to your account, again based on credit worthiness, will be 13.99%, 18.99%, or 23.99%. The APR attached to cash advances its 25.24%, and the penalty APR may rise up to 29.99%, again based on your credit worthiness. That means if you make a late payment on your Citibank AT&T Universal Savings Platinum card, or make a payment that has been returned, your APR will shoot up to 29.99% and likely stay there “indefinitely”.
