In general, APRs for the Hilton HHonors Surpass Card from American Express are a bit lower than most other cards. For instance, the APR on purchases is 2.9% for 6 months. Then the regular purchases APR will raise to either 15.24%, 17.24% or 19.24%, to be determined by your credit rating and several other variables that will be considered when you are issued your card. This will also be the APR for balance transfers. Other annual percentage rates for this card are:

  •     25.24% APR on cash advances;
  •     27.24% penalty APR;

The penalty APR will be assigned to your account if you make any payment late (even one) and/or have a payment returned. If the penalty APR is applied to your account, it will remain in effect at least six months.   •     $75 membership fee (annually);
  •     3% or $5 fee (whichever is greater) for balance transfers;
  •     3% or $5 fee for cash advances;
  •     2.7% fee for foreign transactions based on the amount after conversion to U.S. Dollars;
  •     Up to $35 fees for late payments and/or returned payments;

If you travel a lot and use your card for lodging fees, the $75 annual fee is no big deal. It will pay for itself quickly. It’s a plus too that there are no blackout dates. You’ll find that when compared to similar cards that have no annual fee, the rewards program structure is highly favorable.
