US Bank 1-2-3 Rewards Visa Card – Easy to use as ABC?

US Bank offers the 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card, a retail card that enables users to utilize their card and benefit from rewards at everything from popular department and electronic stores to supermarkets. The bank card offers unlimited accrual of reward points along with a variety of other benefits. Take the time to understand the benefits, rules and regulations regarding the 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card and its rewards program and the terms and conditions of this card before applying to ensure you’re making an educated decision.

1-2-3 Rewards Visa Card Benefits

The 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card comes with a variety of benefits, including your ability to earn one point for every dollar spent anywhere that Visa cards are used and accepted.  Cardholders can even use the 1-2-3 rewards Visa card when shopping at Kroger family supermarkets.  Earn two points for every dollar you spend at Kroger brand supermarkets, and three points for every dollar spent on Kroger brands inside the store.

Using the 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card allows rewards certificates to be sent automatically every three months throughout the year. For every 1,000 points earned, you get $5 in free groceries. Do the math. You’re going to spend money on groceries anyway, and while the $5 in free groceries seems small, it’s still free money.  In addition, every time you gas up at your Kroger family store fuel center, you can save $.25 a gallon during the first three months of card ownership – when you redeem 100 fuel rewards points there. This is a perk that just about anyone is interested in these days, and it’s not hard to accrue 100 fuel points when you’re shopping for a family.

According to US Bank, when you use your 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card, you’re getting three cards in one, meaning rewards card, a Visa card, and a shopper’s card. You can benefit from each in numerous ways. Save money on groceries and gas when using your 1-2-3 Rewards Visa at Kroger’s and then reap the benefits.

Additional benefits of the 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card include fraud protection and zero dollar fraud liability. Of course, keep in mind that you must inform US Bank within a reasonable time if you notice any unauthorized or questionable charges on your card.

You won’t pay an annual fee, and the card offers travel and emergency assistance, travel accident insurance, and auto rental collision damage waivers. Last but not least, you have access to free online banking at US Bank as well as an option for automatic payments for your bills. These services are fairly typical of all credit cards today.

1-2-3 Rewards Visa Program

When your account is opened, you’ll automatically be enrolled in the 1-2-3 Rewards program. We mentioned earlier that you can earn between one and three points on purchases made with your 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card. These points are redeemed in the form of 1-2-3 Rewards Certificates, which can be redeemed for purchases at Kroger family supermarkets (for example, Kroger, City Market, Ralphs). A reward certificate will be sent out to you approximately four times a year when a minimum of 1,000 rewards points has been earned. As mentioned earlier, 1,000 rewards points is equivalent to $5 cash – and you continue to receive these certificates as long as your account remains in good standing.

Purchase types and point levels are as follows:

  • 3 points for every dollar spent on net purchases at Kroger family stores and Kroger brands and products
  • 2 points for every dollar spent on your purchases inside a Kroger store, but this excludes Kroger family store brands
  • 1 point for every dollar spent on all purchases you make outside of a Kroger family store

Kroger owns dozens of stores around the country and includes King Soopers, Smith’s Food and Drug Stores, Fries Marketplace, City Market, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, and Pay Less supermarkets, among others.

Terms and Conditions

Always read the fine print when it comes to terms and conditions attached to any card, and that goes for this three-in-one card as well. Last but not least, you’ll benefit from a 0% introductory APR for nine months following the opening of your account. After that, the APR ranges between 13.99% and 23.99%, depending on your credit history and perceived credit worthiness as determined by US Bank.

After the introductory period ends, your annual percentage rate will range between 13.99% and 23.99%, depending on your credit worthiness. The same applies for balance transfers, but balance transfers must be made within 30 days of opening your account.

When it comes to cash advances, you can expect an APR of 25.24%. While you won’t pay an annual membership fee, do be prepared for six different types of transaction fees.  While you won’t pay for overdraft protection, you will pay 4% of the amount of every transfer or advance, or $10, whichever is greater when you transfer balances, take a convenience check cash advance, a cash advance at an ATM, or a cash advance. When it comes to a cash equivalent advance, expect to pay 4% of that advance or $20 minimum, whichever is larger. When it comes to foreign transaction fees, you can expect to pay 2.8%.

That isn’t all. Penalty fees also apply. While you won’t pay a penalty fee for going over your limit, you will be charged up to $35 for late payments or returned payments.

Bottom Line

The US Bank 1-2-3 Rewards Visa card is certainly beneficial to everyday use and convenience, as we all have to go grocery shopping and fill our tanks with gas. If you’re a Kroger family store shopper, this card may be more beneficial to you than if you’re not.  The annual percentage rates, terms and conditions are fairly typical of rewards cards, but always do the math and determine how many dollars you actually have to stand in order to obtain rewards benefits.

All in all, this is a good card, but don’t expect extravagant rewards from it. Five dollars here and there isn’t going to do you much good overall, but if you’re shopping at a Kroger family store anyway, a little ‘thank you’ never hurts.
