The AeroMexico Visa Signature card offered by US Bank claims to provide superior travel rewards and a number of privileges for cardholders. The credit card is designed primarily as an airline flights rewards program with expenditures rewarded with free miles. Only you can decide whether the card delivers after reading a brief overview of its benefits, rewards program, and interest rates.
AeroMexico Visa Signature Card Benefits
Front and center on the US Bank website are the benefits attached to the AeroMexico Visa Signature card. With this one, you’ll find footnotes attached to just about every benefit listed, so make sure you access the terms and conditions to find out what they’re all about. Eligible applicants will receive the AeroMexico Visa signature card. However, if you’re not accepted for that one, you may possibly be accepted for the AeroMexico Visa card or the AeroMexico Visa secured card. The last two cards don’t offer the same benefits as the US Bank AeroMexico Visa Signature card, so do be aware of that.
The AeroMexico Visa Signature card offers cardholders the opportunity to earn one ‘Club Premier Miles’ for every dollar you spend. You get two times the miles when you use your credit card for gas and groceries. However, you will not receive double miles for balance transfers, advances, convenience checks, interest charges, fees, or purchases that fund a certain number of prepaid card products. Again, always read the fine print attached to any credit card offer so you’re familiar with such stipulations.
Here’s the kicker – cardholders will receive two miles for every dollar spent on qualified AeroMexico tickets if they are purchased directly from Aeromexico or the AeroMexico airline website. The double miles are not applicable for any flight ticket purchases that you make from other online sites or a travel agency.
When you use your AeroMexico Visa Signature card, you also receive 20,000 first-time bonus miles – but only after your annual fee has been paid, or you make your first purchase with the card. Not only will you receive 20,000 first-time bonus miles, but a complementary companion ticket. That offer is valid for first-time AeroMexico Visa Signature card holders only and the certificate is valid for only round-trip travel from the US to Mexico on AeroMexico or AeroMexico connect carriers.
Benefits also include 4,000 bonus miles awarded annually and a voucher for $99 for a companion ticket when you renew your card. The companion certificate is only valid for round-trip travel from the US to Mexico on AeroMexico.
Finally, you’ll receive two times the miles on any AeroMexico airfare perches along with a 15% discount. When it comes to the AeroMexico ticket discounts, you can expect a 15% discount for your ticket purchase when it’s completed at an AeroMexico ticketing office or when you call the Aeromexico reservations number and you use your AeroMexico Visa Signature card to book the reservation. Be aware that the 15% discount does not apply to any flight ticket purchases that you complete online at the AeroMexico Airlines website.
There is no spending limit, and card members will also receive a number of dining privileges, premium offers, and Visa Signature concierge services. When it comes to the no spending limit, US Bank is not talking about unlimited spending, as US Bank will determine authorizations for purchases based on your credit and account history, verification of income and liquid assets.
Additional benefits also include a 0% introductory annual APR during the first 12 billing cycles, but you’ll pay $80 a year after that.
You also get zero from liability and protection, travel and emergency assistance services, auto rental collision damage waiver, travel accident insurance, and free online banking and automatic bill pay. These benefits are common with credit card offers today, so there’s nothing unique to be found there.
While the AeroMexico Visa Signature card certainly offers a variety of benefits, each one of those benefits also comes with stipulations. Before getting too excited, read the fine print attached to all of the stipulations regarding your benefits, rewards, and options in using the AeroMexico Visa Signature card.
Terms and Conditions
Carefully read through the AeroMexico Visa Signature card documentation for terms and conditions regarding annual percentage rate, transaction fees, and other stipulations attached to the card.
We already mentioned that you won’t pay an annual fee for first-year, but you will pay an $80 fee every year after that. The annual percentage rate for the AeroMexico Visa Signature card ranges between 12.99% and 22.99% depending on your credit history and perceived credit worthiness by US Bank upon opening your account. The same APR applies to balance transfers. When it comes to cash advances, you can expect to 23.99% rate.
A number of transaction fees apply to the AeroMexico Visa Signature card. For balance transfers and convenience check cash advances, you’ll pay 3% or $5 minimum of each transfer amount or advance, whichever is larger. Cash advances at an ATM machine or a cash advance in the bank will accrue a 4% or $5 minimum of each advance, again whichever is larger. You’ll pay 4% or $10 minimum of the amount of a cash equivalent advance. You don’t have to pay for overdraft protection, but you will pay foreign transaction fees; 2% in US dollars or 3% in foreign currency. Check the website for further details.
Finally, be aware of penalty fees. You won’t pay a penalty fee for being over your limit, but you can pay up to $35 for late payments or returned payment fees.
Unless you have excellent credit, you can expect to pay the higher range of the APR for this card. For some, it’s not worth it. Always do the math when it comes to determining how much money you have to spend for your reward miles. If you enjoy regular travel between the United States and Mexico and you’re flying anyway, then the Aeromexico Visa Signature card may be a good option. However, because the card is focused on providing air miles on AeroMexico and AeroMexico connect flights only, the card is not recommended for those who do not make frequent trips south of the border or who prefer more choices when it comes to carriers.
